Virginia G. Swenson's Obituary

Virginia G. Swenson, age 99, a resident of Wheaton, passed away, Sunday, September 19, 2021.  She was born January 15, 1922 in Cicero, Illinois to Ladislav & Anna Budil.

Virginia lived in Cicero until she was in third grade when her family moved to Milwaukee, WI.   She enjoyed playing the flute and piano and graduated from Washington High School.  While in high school she joined Job's Daughters and was later elected to be Honored Queen, the highest office.  She went on to Milwaukee State Teachers College, majoring in both vocal and instrumental studies, where she met Harry Swenson, her future husband.

After college, Virginia taught vocal and instrumental music in Beloit as well as being a church soloist for 2 years.  She married Harry in June 1946 and they returned to Cicero, living with Ginny's folks while Harry attended Northwestern and she taught in the public schools and started new students on private piano lessons.  When Ginny's health issues required a move to Florida, she volunteered at Harry's school music program, altering & laundering band uniforms, running fundraising candy sales and teaching girl's Choir. Before the school year finished, their first child, Barbara, was born. Returning to Illinois for Harry to finish his degree, Ginny and Harry settled for several years in Paxton while their family grew to five with David and Linda being born. Even now, with three children to raise, Ginny continued teaching private music lessons while altering more school uniforms, sewing curtains and draperies for two homes until the family moved to Des Plaines in 1964.  In 1972 Ginny and Harry built their dream home in South Barrington where they lived for 46 years doing all the things they loved together.

Her passion was music.  During all these years she shared her passion, teaching piano, flute and voice lessons, singing in the church choir, singing solos or duets with Harry for church, making sure her three children all learned to play the piano and sing.  She also loved gardening, sewing, knitting and crocheting.  She delighted in her family and felt blessed to live to see her 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

She is survived by her three children: Barbara (Joseph) Jakucki of Mesa, AZ, David H. (Cathy) Swenson of Bainbridge Island, WA and Linda (Michael) Krueger of Carol Stream; seven grandchildren: Joanna (Brian) Wilson, Jonathon Jakucki, Kelley & Joel Swenson, and Eric (Alissa), Amy & Steven (Sarah) Krueger; five great-grandchildren: Natalie Wilson, and Patrick, Adalyn, Briana & Eloise Krueger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry (2019) and her brother, Homer.
