Virginia Elizabeth Stockert, age 80, a resident of Naperville, IL, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. She was born February 28, 1932 in Franklin, OH to John and Myrtle Homan.
Virginia grew up in Carlisle, OH with two brothers, Forrest and John. She became a Registered Nurse in 1952 after training at Miami Valley Hospital. She had a thirst for knowledge, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology in 1985 and a Masters Degree in Social Work in 1991, both from Illinois Benedictine College. In addition to her passionate work as a nurse, she worked in the areas of women's issues as a social worker, helping women to adjust to the changes in their lives. She loved to travel, visiting many foreign countries as well as 47 of the United States. She lived a full life, having special interests in ballroom dance, art, reading, golf, theater and music. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by five children, Michael Stockert, Mark (Debbie) Stockert, Susan (Kurt) Wegleitner, Matthew (Debbie) Stockert and Sheila (Mark) Wheatley; eleven grandchildren, Anton Yepimakhov, John Evan Lee, Michael and Elizabeth Stockert, Jonathan and Katherine Wegleitner, Kevin, Emmaline and Thomas Stockert, and Vivian and Adam Wheatley; and her son-in-law, Stephen (Deedra) Lee.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Alfred A. Stockert; and her daughter, Lucinda Stockert Lee.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Irene Catholic Church, 28W441 Warrenville Road, in Warrenville, IL. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, IL.
