Virginia M. Sommerschield, age 89, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, died Saturday, October 29 at Central Du Page Hospital.

Mrs. Sommerschield was born in Fairland, IL on November 6, 1915 to Edward and Maggie Roberts. She was a former resident of Mt. Prospect and Park Ridge, where she worked for Sun Electric for many years.

In 1939 she married Harold Sommerschield. Together they were very involved in the Mayfair Bible Church in Chicago, South Park Church in Park Ridge, Prospect Heights Baptist Church, Des Plaines Bible Church and in recent years at Faith Baptist Church in Winfield.

She is survived by three children, Barbara (Richard) Lethander of Athens, TN, Beverly (John) Schwan of South Barrington, and David (Cheryl) Sommerschield of Park Ridge, nine grandchildren, Charlie (Heather) Lethander, Becky (Chris) Bultinck, Andy (Sarah) Lethander, Brad (Nicole) Schwan, Jana Schwan, Kara (John) Klein, Krista (Jeff) Peterson, Scott (Elaine) Sommerschield, and Lindsay (Rick) Meyers, and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and 5 siblings.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 2, from 10 to 11 am at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton, with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will be held at Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines.
