Virginia B. de St. Paer, age 95, a resident of Wheaton for over 50 years, died Sunday, November 14 at Wynscape Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wheaton. She was born on November 12, 1915 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Hazel nee Crawford and John W. Edwards.
Ginny graduated from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa and Teacher College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was a member of Delta Phi Beta Sorority at Buena Vista College. She worked as a teacher and substitute teacher for a number of years. On August 15, 1940 she married Claude de St. Paer. They lived in Iowa until 1959 when they and their children, Sue and Jerry, moved to Wheaton. She was passionate about Wheaton and Republican politics. She was chairwoman of DuPage County Republican Party from 1976 until 1987, having been named DuPage Republican Woman of the Year in 1975. She was president of the Women's Department Club, president of the Wheaton A.M. Homemakers, vice-president of the Home Garden Club and Secretary and Guardian of Chapter J.O. of P.E.O. She was very active at Gary United Methodist Church where she volunteered in Wesley Shop for many years.
She is survived by her husband Claude, two children, Sue (William) Lee of Horicon, Wisconsin and Jerry (Karen) de St. Paer of Chatham, NJ, nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mary Ellen Kelling of Montezuma, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Francine Schlee.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Gary Memorial United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Outreach Community Center, Older Adults Program, 122 W. Liberty Dr., Wheaton, IL 60187.
