Virgil V.
Reeve
May 12, 1936 – December 2, 2023
Virgil Reeve passed on to his eternal home on December 2, 2023. He was the husband of Evelyn Koller for 62 years, devoted father of Carol Reeve, Doug (Kim) Reeve, and dear grandfather of Laura Reeve.
Virgil was born on May 12, 1936, in Globe, Arizona to Guy and Nevada Jane Reeve. His siblings (Louise, Curtis, Bonnie, and George) have pre-deceased him.
Virgil received his Master of Divinity degree from Northern Baptist Seminary in 1963, after completing his bachelor's degree at Moody Bible Institute and Greenville College in Greenville, IL.
Virgil pastored seven churches during his career: Forest Glen Baptist Church (Chicago), First Baptist Church (Keokuk, IA), First Baptist Church (Decatur, IL), First Baptist Church (Fremont, NE), First Chinese Baptist Church (Fresno, CA), First Baptist Church (Ashtabula, OH), and Oak Park Avenue Baptist Church (Berwyn, IL). Through it all, the Lord blessed his ministry and rewarded Virgil with many good friends. In 2006, Virgil and Evelyn put down "church roots" at College Church in Wheaton, IL.
Virgil was passionate about Bible research and shared verses and his artistic creations with friends and acquaintances. He loved to travel, particularly if there was a lighthouse at the destination and opportunities for photography along the way.
One of Virgil's great joys was introducing folks to the features and use of a study Bible. He often said that everyone should have a "studied study Bible". Gifting many people with a Bible or portion of it was a real delight for him.
In later years, Virgil and Evelyn moved to Covenant Living at Windsor Park, a retirement community in Carol Stream, IL. It provided opportunities for many new and fruitful relationships. He partnered with Windsor's chaplains to serve residents and also those in Johnson Health Care Center.
Virgil loved and actively served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to the very end of his days here on earth. He loved his wife, Evelyn, and daughter, Carol, and son, Doug, and his family with great love.
A memorial service to honor Virgil's life will be held at Covenant Living at Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 1:30 pm (CST). The service will be livestreamed beginning at 1:30 pm (CST) through this link:
