Obituary

Virgil Britton Polley M.D., 88, died on October 25, 2010, after living 15 years with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born in Carmel, N.Y., March 6, 1922, son of Virgil Eugene Polley and Annie Miller Polley. For most of his active life, he was a surgeon in Oneonta, N.Y. He and his wife went on 17 medical mission trips to various parts of the world.

Dr. Polley is survived by his wife, Virginia C. Polley, his four daughters; Rebecca (Beccy) Polley Scruton, Joan Polley Sheesley, Virginia (Ginger) B. Polley, Jennifer A. Polley and two sons-in-law, Gordon P. Scruton and Joel C. Sheesley. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Dr. Polley, the consummate gentleman, loved his wife completely, his daughters and their families without reservation, his patients with compassion and his Lord passionately.

He was joyfully loved by his family and his death is a deep loss. His family is profoundly grateful to Almighty God for the privilege of being part of his life and we give thanks for God's presence in Virgil's beginnings, his journey and his ending.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Windsor Park Manor, 124 Windsor Park Drive, in Carol Stream, IL. Another memorial service will be held in Oneonta, NY at a later date. Interment will be at the Glenwood Cemetery in Oneonta, NY.
