Violet Schroeder was born on February 1st, 1922, to Frank and Susie Schroeder at Chinook, Montana, the fifth of eight siblings. She died on September 4th, 2007, after a brief but valiant struggle with cancer.

She was just an infant when the family left their pioneer homestead in Montana and moved back to South Dakota where her parents had originally lived. She attended public school in the Mennonite community area of South Dakota, graduating from Marion High School in 1940. Violet accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in her early childhood days, and regularly attended the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church.

She attended Tabor College (Hillsboro, KS) for two years, then moved to Chicago, where she graduated from Moody Bible Institute in 1948. After graduation she entered home missionary work in Kentucky under the Scripture Mountain Mission Board, including a year teaching in a one-room school house in Hyden. She then moved to Michigan were she taught children's Bible classes for several years. She returned to Chicago in 1961 to teach at Midwestern Christian Academy until she retired from teaching in 1988. In 1970 she received her BA degree in Evanston, Illinois. After retirement she moved to the Wheaton area, and worked part time at Moody Bible Institute in the Extension Department until 1998.

She attended Moody Memorial Church during her time in Chicago, where she served as president of her Business and Professionals Sunday School class. She also was active in the Christian Business Women of Chicago, serving as president for two years. Throughout her life she loved music, including singing and playing the piano and hand bells.

She is survived by her brothers Leo and Arno, and six nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank W and Susie (Becker) Schroeder, and her sisters Adina (Lagemann), Christine (Larson), Verna, Gladys (Larson) and Agnes (Deckert).
