Violet H. Rougas, age 83, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, IL, died Wednesday, November 29 at the Central Du Page Hospital. She was born on September 16, 1923 in Scotland.
At age 11 she won a national essay contest in Scotland which helped finance her emigration as a young adult. During WWII she was conscripted as a nurse in England. After her voyage to America, she worked in banking in Chicago and volunteered as the nurse at Camp AWANA with Dr. Lance Latham. She married Jon N. Rougas on October 16, 1954 in Chicago, IL.
As a homemaker she was involved with her family at Midwest Christian Academy and St. John's Episcopal Church in Chicago. She worked at Northwest National Bank in Chicago for over 20 years retiring as a Senior Loan Officer. In 1991 Violet and Jon retired to Colorado Springs among family and friends.
She is survived by three children, Ian M. Rougas of Chicago, Catherine (Gene) Darnell of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Thomas (Lisa) Rougas of Geneva, nine grandchildren, her brother, Andrew Gloag of Scotland and a niece, Lynn (Bruce) Wagner of Canada. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Rita and Catherine and a brother, Peter.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 3 from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m., with a funeral service at 4:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 4 at 9:30 a.m. at Windsor Park Manor, Windsor Park Dr. at North Ave., (just west of Gary Ave.) in Carol Stream.
Additional services will be held in the chapel of Shrine of Remembrance Cemetery, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO on Wednesday, December 6 at 10:00 a.m
