Obituary

Violet Eck died Friday, August 26, 2011 in LaPalma, California.

Violet Lenore Halverson was born September 15, 1924 in Ludington, Michigan to Carl E. and Hulda A. Halverson. She graduated from Ludington High School in 1943 and worked as a clerk and secretary.

She married Everett A. Eck June 8, 1946 and moved to Chicago where she worked for a while at the University of Chicago including the Manhattan project that led to creation of the first atomic bomb.
In 1957 they moved to Glen Ellyn, IL and Violet worked at Chapel of the Air for many years retiring in 1992. In 2003 she moved to Rockford, Il and then in 2008 to California to be near family.

Violet was very involved in Evangelical Free Churches in Chicago (Oak Lawn), Wheaton and Rockford often helping in teaching Sunday school and attending Bible studies and women's activities. She served on the Deaconess Board and as Chair of the Women's Missionary Society. She and her husband, Everett, also supported many missionaries over the years.

Surviving are two children, Evalee (Elroy) Vesta of Fergus Falls, MN, Brian (Enid) Eck of LaMirada, CA, four grandchildren Erik (Amanda) Eck of Spring, TX, Jenna (Joey) Kranzberg of Dallas, TX, Janelle (David) Baird and Jim (Cari) Vesta of Bloomington, MN and 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sister-in-law Norma Halverson of Muskegon, MI and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Everett in 1987, her parents, five brothers; Albin, Gordon, Lester, Kenneth and William (Jim) and a sister Gladys Artibee.

A funeral services will be held at the stone chapel by the lake close to the entrance of Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace on Saturday, September 3rd, at 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will immediately follow. A reception is being held at 3:00 p.m. at the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, 520 E Roosevelt Road, Wheaton, IL 60187.
