Victoria Elizabeth
Caffey
February 15, 1939 – February 21, 2022
Victoria Elizabeth Caffey, nee Gibson age 83, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 21, 2022.
Victoria, born a twin, entered this world February 15, 1939, in Wheaton, Illinois to Hollis Gibson and Elizabeth Gibson, nee Martin. She was beloved and known as "Babs" and "Vick", to her siblings.
Victoria was twelfth out of a total of fourteen children and the eighth of nine surviving children. She along with all nine siblings, attended Lowell Elementary School and Wheaton Community High school(WCHS). Victoria was class of 1957, and was active in assemblies that allowed racial diversity. She also earned a place in history in 1956, becoming one of the first African American cheerleaders at Wheaton Community High School. She helped lead the way for her own daughter, and other African American young ladies.
After graduation, she attended Northern Illinois University for two years and immediately married the true love of her life, John Willie Caffey, Sr., after he returned home from the navy, on September 26, 1959; celebrating 53 years of marriage at the time of his passing. John and Victoria had four children, Elizabeth Caffey (past at birth), John W. Caffey, Jr., Lisa C. Scott, nee Caffey, and Keri D. Caffey.
Victoria worked as an executive administrator at FermiLab, McDonald's Corporation, United Airlines, Bibles for The World, and Wheaton College. She also worked as a Sunday school teacher, hosted Bible studies in her home, and mentored numerous young women.
Victoria lived her life spreading the gospel to anyone who had an ear to hear.
Many years later she would become one of the first African-American business owners in Wheaton and Wheaton's first African-American Salon and Spa owner. Being a tenacious and hard-working leader, she also assisted in launching The School of Ministry for Dr. Bill Winston's Ministry, where she too completed her certification and became a ministry leader at Living Word Christian Center.
Victoria, loved socializing, praying and interceding, encouraging others and being with family. Most of all, Victoria deeply loved her grandchildren. She would often say, "words can not explain the love you feel for your children, but there's an even greater love you have for your grandchild".
Victoria is proceeded in death by her husband John Willie Caffey, Sr., her daughter Elizabeth Caffey, her siblings: Francis Smith, Hollis Gibson, Jr., Erma Williams, Charles Douglas Gibson, Harriett Steele, Gwendolyn McCreary and Melvin Gibson.
