Glavach Jr.
October 30, 1943 – November 16, 2020
Victor Carl Glavach, Jr., 77, of Valparaiso, IN, passed away on November 16, 2020 after battling Parkinson's with Lewy Body Dementia. Victor was born in Johnstown, PA, to Victor Carl Glavach, Sr., and Dorothea Stravasnik on October 30, 1943. Victor grew up in Johnstown, PA and Cicero, IL, and later earned a B.A. from The King's College in 1965, and a M.A. from Wheaton College in 1967.
Most recently Victor worked as the executive pastor at First Baptist Church of Elgin. He spent his career working mostly for Christian nonprofit organizations, (Youth for Christ, Campus Crusade for Christ/Executive Ministries, Christian Legal Society) with a notable exception being his time working as an aide to Senator Mark Hatfield in the U.S. Senate in the 1970s. He served on the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability 1979-1987, and the Dupage County Housing Authority board, 1981-1983. He worked for the release of the Siberian 7 and traveled with them from Vienna to Israel before they came to the U.S. in 1983. For many years he enjoyed the DuPage County Prayer Breakfast and working as the director of Life on Wheels. Victor was a long time Wheaton resident but more recently lived in Fredericksburg, VA, prior to moving to Valparaiso, Indiana. He has been retired for the past 10 years.
Victor is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Betsey (Poole) Glavach of Valparaiso; daughter Gigi and John Houlihan of Wheaton; son Landy and Manya (Kiene) Glavach of Miami; son Dan and Marceline (Romig) Glavach of Valparaiso; and grandchildren John Orland Houlihan, Nathan and Taylor (Hartzel) Houlihan, Edward and David Houlihan and Landon, Luke, Jackson, Winston and Morgan Glavach. He is now reunited in heaven with his parents and granddaughter Reagan Glavach.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions all services will be held privately on Monday, November 23. The family invites friends to join remotely for a Memorial Service at 10:15 a.m. and at 11:30 a.m. for the Graveside Service. The Livestream may be viewed here: Victor's Livestream Video
In lieu of flowers the family asks that a memorial donation be made in Victor's honor to Youth For Christ.
