Vera M. Nelson, nee Rosenquist, age 86, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, IL, and formerly of Arvada and Westminster, CO. She was born December 19, 1921 in Kansas.

Vera lived in the same town as Elom Nelson, who became the love of her life through correspondence while he was in the war. They married when he returned from the South Pacific on March 4, 1945. She was very dedicated to her family and church. She had the gift of hospitality and regularly welcomed people into her home. She was able to make a nice meal out of very little and could be very spontaneous in serving others. She volunteered at church regularly, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School.

She is survived by her three children, Diann (Larry) Anderson of Naperville, IL, Duane Nelson of Las Animas, CO, and Debra (Wesley) Lindahl of Libertyville, IL; ten grandchildren, Andrew (Timea), and Jennifer Nelson, Eric (Cherith), Kurt (Denee), and Ryan Anderson, Linnea, Carl, and Peter Nelson, and Anne (Jed) Bassett, and John Lindahl; three great-grandchildren, Ava and Ingrid Anderson, and Calvin Anderson; and two expectant great-grandchildren, William Andrew Nelson, and one as yet unnamed. She is also survived by her sister, Norma Garrett of Aurora, CO.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Elom, who died in 1991; her son, Dennis Nelson, in 2007; a granddaughter in 1980; and her brother, Wayne Rosenquist, in 2005.

A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9, from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 13, at 2:00 P.M. at Arvada Covenant Church, 5555 Ward Road, in Arvada, CO. Private interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver, CO.
