Vera E. Hedstrom was born in Chicago, July 28th, 1918, the daughter of the late Edward J. and Sigrid Erickson. She went Home to her Lord on February 25th, 2011 while at home.
Vera grew up in Oak Park, Illinois, attending Hatch School, and then Oak Park High School. She married Vern J. Hedstrom on October 21, 1939 and was married almost 60 years until Vern passed away in 1999. They first lived in Chicago where their first three children were born, James (1941), Paul (1945), and Joan (1951). In 1951 they moved to Wheaton, Illinois where John (1954), joined the family. For nearly 60 years she was a member of College Church in Wheaton where she was very active, serving as a deaconess, Pioneer Girl leader and Pal, as well as nursery volunteer. She also volunteered for many years at Repeat Boutique, a resale shop that began as a church missionary closet. Vera had a heart for hospitality and would host many dinners for family, friends, visiting missionaries and Wheaton College students. Her love of the Lord and His Word were evident in her life as she thoughtfully remembered so many with her cards, letters, and gifts of food. Vera also was a very talented artist leaving behind over 25 paintings and other works of art.
Vera is survived by her children, James (Christa) Hedstrom, of Nashville, TN, Paul Hedstrom, of Grafton, NH, Joan (Bob) Dye, of Wheaton IL, and John Hedstrom also of Wheaton. She was the very beloved grandmother to Christine (Gary) Mc Nickle, Jai Hedstrom, Sara (Ben) Pinnell, Laura (Jonathan) Bicknell,
David (Jodi) Hedstrom, Montgomery Hedstrom, Karl Hedstrom, Heather (Chad) Timm, Karin (Todd) Farrington, Nathan (Tiernen) Dye and 11 great-grandchildren.
