Vasile Marin, age 71, a resident of West Chicago, IL, died Monday, July 18, 2016, at Wynscape Nursing Center in Wheaton, IL. He was born on April 9, 1945 in the city of Baicoi, in the County of Prahova in Romania.

After graduating from elementary school, as advised by his father, he entered the school of Chemistry and Oil extraction from which he graduated in June 1964.

In 1968 he married Smaranda Gorgan and they lived together 48 years in peace and love. They loved children but God did not give them any. For a short period of time they participated in the worship services of the Evangelical Brethren and then they moved to the Baptist Church of Ploesti. In this church they were baptized together in April of 1974.

In February of 1989, Vasile and Smaranda Marin emigrated to the United Stated in Pennsylvania. Vasile found a job at a firm making stain glass products. Vasile, who had a God given artistic talent, learned this trade in a very short time at the amazement of the owner of the firm. Two years later the Marin's moved to Chicago, called by some friends. Here they became members of the First Baptist Church of Wheaton but they participated very frequently in the worship services of the Romanian Baptist Church.

He had a special appreciation for pastor Valentin Popovici and continued to listen to his recorded sermons on DVD up to the last days of his life.

Vasile was a hard working and talented person. For many years he was working two jobs.

In 2001 it was discovered that he had advanced colon cancer and he had to go thru many hard, difficult and complicated surgeries. He suffered a lot but his wife Mandica was always next to him to serve him, to comfort him and to encourage him.

In 2013 the cancer came back and spread. He had to undergo many chemotherapy sessions that were hard and painful. He endured them with the patience of a saint. In this time the members of the First Baptist Church of Wheaton were very supportive, especially Dana and John Whitmer, and Julie and many others who helped them with transportation to the hospital, food, shopping and material and spiritual support.

Vasile was a good Christian, a man of strong faith, and a talented painter. He loved our Lord Jesus Christ, he loved his wife Smaranda, and the work of the Lord.

In the last 3 weeks of his life he was in continuous fellowship with his Lord Jesus by praying and meditating on the word of God. He felt the presence of the Lord next to him as a third person in the house.

On Monday, July 18 at 5 a.m. our Lord called him home. He passed away peacefully. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord.... that they rest from their labors and their works do follow them". Revelation 14:13

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. until the start of a funeral service to be held at 11:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, IL.

S-a  născut la 9 Aprilie 1945 în orașul Băicoi Județul Prahova Romania. După absolvirea școlii elementare și la îndemnul  tatălui  său a urmat școala de  ucenici Petrol Chimie pe care a absolvit-o în Iunie 1964 cu specialitatea , sondor foraj extracție.

In 1968 s-a căsătorit cu Smaranda Gorgan , și au trăit împreună 48 de ani în pace dragoste și bună înțelegere. In căsătoria lor nu au avut copii deși au iubit copii.  Pentru scurtă vreme au frecventat adunarea fraților Creștini după Evanghelie, apoi au trecut la biserica Baptistă din Ploiești unde au fost botezați împreună în Aprilie 1974.

În Februarie 1989 au emigrat în Statele Unite în Pensylvania.  Aici Vasile Marin, care avea un talent artistic înăscut a învățat arta și iscusința de a executa vitralii fiind foarte apreciat  de proprietarul firmei.   După doi ani au venit la Chicago chemați de prieteni.  Aici au devenit membrii la First Baptist Church of Weaton dar au frecventat și Bisrica baptistă Romînă avănd o deosebită apreciere pentru pastorul Valentin Popovici pe care-l ascultau cu mare plăcere pînă în ultimile zile ale vieții lui.

A fost un om harnic și talentat. a lucrat ani de zile chiar două servicii.

În anul 2001 s-a descoperit că are cancer avansat la colon, și a trebuit să sufere multe operații foarte grele. A suferit mult dar întotdeauna soția lui Smaranda a fost lîngă el să-l slujească să-l mîngăie să-l ajute și să-l încurajeze. În 2013 cancerul a revenit, și au urmat sesiuni de chemoterapie  foarte grele și chinuitoare pe care le-a suferit cu răbdarea unui sfînt. În această perioadă Biserica din Wheaton a fost lîngă el, și în special Dana și John Whetmer, Julie și mulți alții i-au ajutat cu transportul la spital cu mîncare, cumpărături și suport material și spiritual.

Vasile Marin a fost un credincios bun, un talentat pictor care L-a iubit pe Domnul Isus, pe soția lui Smaranda, și lucrarea Domnului.

Ultimile 3 săptămîni din viață le-a petrecut într-o părtășie și rugăciune cu Domnul Isus și a mărturisit că simnte prezența Domnului chiar fizic lîngă el ca a treia persoană in casă.

Luni 18 Iulie la ora 5:00 dimineața Domnul l-a chemat acasă. A murit senin și în pace.
