Obituary

Trevor Bull was born June 28, 1952 in a south side Chicago suburb. Some of his earliest memories involved fond childhood adventures on the south side that ultimately were disrupted by the infamous "white flight" epidemic. That phase and the turbulent 60's greatly influenced him. In his early twenties he became a talented blues harmonica musician, performing with famous Chicago blues bands on the south side and Navy Pier's Blues Festival. A following career in wine sales achieved him a pallet envied in wine taste competitions. When the wine sales industry waned, he moved to monitoring music through the ASCAP organization. In his mid-thirties, he was diagnosed with the genetic, untreatable eye disease Retinitis Pigmentosa- a newly diagnosed disease. He was told he could go totally blind any day and needed to get out of sales. Not to be deterred, he became visually focused - working as a Pinkerton detective while becoming a suburban alderman who was instrumental in bringing down city corruption with the FBI. He then moved into local city cable production, producing music shows. As his eye condition deteriorated, he moved to radio and owned, produced and served as on air talent for the blues show, The Groove Merchant and the outdoor show, Range and Field. He worked around his visual impairment. A severe health tragedy ended that career in 2002 when previously undiagnosed Hepititis C surfaced. As his health worsened, he soldiered on with optimism that a cure would be found. I am his wife of 29 years and his optimism and tenacity always amazed me. He never gave up even at the end. He died suddenly on May 23 at the age of 63. He loved life, music, movies, the outdoors but most importantly family, friends, his beloved pets constantly at his side, and me. Just days before his death he talked about wanting to live into his eighties. He had recently received confirmation that his Hep C was cured by the wonder drug Solvadi. But as we know, life can be cruel to the kindest of us. Here's a salute to people like Trevor who can find joy in life even during insurmountable trials. His memory is preserved by the Gora family and the extended Oslack, Arnold and Bull clans. May his memory inspire us all. God bless you Trevor for being you.
Your loving wife,
Barb
