Tom D. Hughes, age 80, a resident of Wheaton, IL, passed away April 6, 2021. He was born February 12, 1941 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma to Frank & Lola Hughes.

Tom was a native of the Kingfisher area where his family raised wheat and cattle on their centennial farm.   He was proud of his Oklahoma heritage and especially the fact that the original homestead is still owned by the family.

Tom attend Dover School and was a devoted 4H member.  He graduated from Oklahoma State and was determined to pursue higher levels of education.  He was accepted into the University of Illinois and earned his Doctorate in Agronomy.  In school he met his wife and they spent 52 years together.   Even though the majority of his married life was spent in Wheaton, IL, he made yearly trips to Kingfisher.

In addition to golf, wood working and clock building, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathleen Hughes; his children Jane (Anthony) Hunter & David (Jessica) Hughes; his five grandchildren: Julia, John & A.J. Hunter and Colin & Cameron Hughes.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private burial will take place at Kingfisher Cemetery in Kingfisher, Oklahoma.
