Todd Alan Hafner, age 61, a resident of Glendale Heights, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 after 2-1/2 years of battling the side effects from Covid-19. He was born November 4, 1961 in Cherokee, IA to Hilmer & Mary Ellen Hafner. He lived in Larrabee, Klemme and Panora, IA. In 1980, Todd graduated from Panora-Linden High School.
Todd attended Westmar College in LeMars, IA where he met Debra. Todd graduated from Westmar in 1984 with a BA in business and economics. He was hired by the Burger King Corporation as an assistant manager and worked in Downers Grove and Elmhurst, IL. On June 15, 1985, Todd and Debra were married in Spirit Lake, IA and they settled in Glendale Hts.
In 1986, Todd left Burger King for a Real Estate Appraiser position with TRW doing residential appraisals in the Chicagoland area. He worked for several companies before becoming his own boss in 1995. Todd continued to do appraisals for his own company up until he was hospitalized in Sept. 2020.
Todd loved sports and music. In high school, he played baseball and ran cross county. He also played the French horn in band, sang in choir and was part of many musical productions. Todd carried his love of music with him to college where he was part of the Westmar Chorale.
Todd's Christian faith was his life. He was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Lombard and considered them part of his family. He was an elder, president of the congregation, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Todd enjoyed cooking not only for his family, but also to plan dinners and fellowship time for his church family.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Debra; his children, Augustus (Sarah), Benjamin (Joe), Manuel and Juan; his mother, Mary Ellen Hafner, his siblings, Lynette (Brian) Licht and Tyler (Joanna) Hafner; his brothers-in-law, Wade (Cindy) Johnson and Dean Johnson; his sister-in-law, Carolyn (Brian) Kennedy, many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, the late Rev. Hilmer Hafner, his in-laws, Bill and Dorothy Johnson; and his grandparents, Henry and Melitta Hafner and Ralph and Bonnie Gloss.
A visitation will be held Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187 . A memorial service will be held at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 547 N Main St, Lombard, IL 60148 on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 10:30 a.m.
