Timothy “Tim” Paul Kmiec, 59, a beloved husband, stepfather, son, brother, and friend departed this world with his wife by his side on March 10, 2026, at home in Carol Stream, Illinois. He was born on May 17, 1966, in Montpelier, Ohio. Timothy lived a remarkable life defined by his unwavering commitment to family, service, and community.

A proud graduate of Wheaton North High School, class of 1984, Tim was deeply engaged in activities such as soccer, gymnastics, and band, fostering friendships and experiences that remained in his heart. After completing his education, Tim proudly joined the United States Navy, embarking on a ten-year journey that took him across the globe aboard the USS Vicksburg. His distinguished service earned him multiple accolades, including the Navy Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Award, Humanitarian Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, NATO Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Coast Guard Unit Commendation with “O” device, and three Navy "E" Ribbons. Timothy's dedication to his country also extended into his community service, wherein he took on the role of Jr. Vice Commander at Wheaton VFW Post 2164 from 1998 to 1999.

Upon returning to civilian life, Tim had a fulfilling career as a Facility Maintenance Mechanic at American Airlines, where he diligently worked for over twenty five years. With his unwavering blue-collar work ethic and leadership, he served as Section Chairman of the Transportation Workers Union Local 512. Tim’s aptitude for fixing and building anything made him a respected figure in his field.

Loved by many, Tim was a devoted family man. He cherished his wife, Sylvia Kmiec, and embraced the joys of stepfatherhood with open arms. He wholeheartedly engaged in the lives of his stepdaughters, Victoria and Olivia, attending cheer competitions, band concerts, fencing matches, and various school programs, sharing in their adventures with heartfelt enthusiasm.

Beyond his family and career, Timothy had a passion for a beautiful outdoor sanctuary, spending hours ensuring his lawn was immaculate, his flowers were blooming, and his garden was flourishing. He could often be found with classic rock playing loudly in the garage as he tended to his yard. His backyard became a private oasis for family gatherings, enjoying the company of friends, including precious moments spent having beers with his best friend, Paul. Tim's warmth and generous spirit touched the hearts of all who knew him.

Timothy is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Kmiec; stepdaughters, Victoria and Olivia; his mother Mary Kmiec; brother, Stephen R. (Robin) Kmiec; sister, Tonya (Andy) Miller; his nieces and nephew, Vincent (Gina), Gianna, Emily, Kylie, and Ally; and his adored dog, Ziva.
