Timothy Irwin Reist
Tim was born in Oak Park IL on June 7, 1963. His young years were spent in Fillmore and Hume NY where his dad was a pastor and professor at Houghton College. Tim came to Jesus as a 4-year-old boy. But he made the proclamation when he was scared, "I wish Jesus had skin on." He moved with his mother and sister to Illinois where he attended Hadley Jr High School in Glen Ellyn and then Wheaton Central High School in Wheaton. Tim wanted to play football but given his slender build, he decided soccer was a safer and better fit. He was a literal genius. Thinking of majoring in medicine he went to Illinois Wesleyan University. He ended up studying graphic design there and graduated in 1985.
Tim worked with Young Life for some years and attended seminary at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. His faith in Jesus Christ continued to grow and develop through the years. In 2002 he took a trip to the Czech Republic to visit an old high school friend, John Vax. There he met and was smitten with Vladka. They married in 2004. Their daughter Melinda was born in 2005.
Tim took a teaching position at St Francis High School in 2004. He taught World History and Geography. He was the bowling club sponsor. He was well-loved by his students and the faculty and staff at St Francis. His brilliant mind and quick wit were known to all. After being diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2023 Tim continued to teach. He retired from St Francis in May 2024.
He met his Savior face to face on the 19th of August at 61 years of age. Tim is survived by his wife Vladka, his daughter Melinda, his mother Margaret Tornga, his sister Tamara Wisley, and many cousins, aunts, uncles, and myriad other family members of the Reist/Dominguez clan. He is preceded in death by his Father Irwin, his half-brother Raymond Ernest Knitter III, and others who I'm sure he has already greeted in heaven. The first words Tim heard on entering heaven were, "Well done my good and faithful servant." He is healed and at peace.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N Main St, Wheaton, IL 60187
