Obituary

Thomas Edward Williams, M.D., age 50, a resident of Winfield since 1987, died at home on Saturday, May 14. He was born on April 5, 1955 in Syria to Dr. M. Neil and Lillian Williams, former medical missionaries. He was raised in Cedar Falls, Iowa and graduated from Northern University High School.

Tom received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1977 and a Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1981 from the University of Iowa. He served a Surgical Internship and Surgical Residency at Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, OH from 1981 to 1987. From 1987 until the present he has been in private practice in Winfield, originally with Harold Adolph, M.D. and currently in partnership with Thomas Tomasik MD. He has been affiliated with the Central Du Page Hospital, where he served as the President of the Medical Staff for the last four years, was past Chairman of the Dept. of Surgery and past Trauma Director. He is also on staff at Delnor Community Hospital and formerly at Edwards Hospital.

Dr. Williams was certified by Fellow American College of Surgery, Fellow International College of Surgery, American Board of Surgery, and Advanced Trauma Life Support. He was a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Association, Society of Breast Surgeons, Society of General Surgeons, Society of Laproscopic Surgeons, American Medical Association, Du Page County Medical Association, the Chicago Chapter of American College of Surgeons, and a life member of Kingston's National Reg. of Who's Who. He was also a member of the Medical Evangelism Training Strategic Network (METS), most recently serving in Cuba.

He has been an active member of Wheaton Bible Church and a member of the Providence Sunday School Class. Tom led several Bible Studies and discipleship training. He has been a softball coach for the Winfield Wolverines for the past two years, winning the IL State Championship and NSA"B" World Series last summer.

He co-founded and served as president of the Romanian Evangelical Medical Mission, traveling frequently to serve in Romania. In addition to building a medical clinic and orphanage there, he was active in evangelism, teaching in the medical schools and serving the poor.

Tom is survived by his wife of 25 years Rhonda Williams M.D., three children, Nathan, Kelly and Christine, his parents Dr. M. Neil and Lillian Williams of Cedar Falls, IA, four brothers, Steve (Chris) of UT, Rob (Shannon) of MT, Dr. Mark of AZ and Jeff Williams of CO. He is also survived by Rhonda's parents, Carleton and Sandra Kittelson of Decorah, IA.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 18 from 3 until 9 p.m. at the Wheaton Bible Church, Main and Franklin St. in Wheaton, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be held privately at the Wheaton Cemetery.
