Thomas Vertheen, age 73, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died July 27, 2026, at Central DuPage Hospital/Northwestern in Winfield, Illinois. He was born March 22, 1953 in Highwood, IL to Kenneth & Kazuko Vertheen.

Tom grew up in Wheaton and graduated from Glenbard North High School in 1972. He spent many years working as a car salesman for Fencil Tufo Chevrolet in Glendale Heights and also worked at Wes & Sons Standard Gas Station. A true car enthusiast, Tom especially loved classic muscle cars. He enjoyed restoring them, bringing them back to life, and selling them at auction. He was also an avid NASCAR fan, with Dale Earnhardt Sr. always being his favorite driver.

Outside of his work and love of automobiles, Tom found great joy in caring for his yard. He took pride in landscaping, trimming bushes, and keeping his lawn meticulously maintained. He also treasured spending time with his lifelong high school friends, sharing memories and enjoying their lasting friendships.

He is survived by his brother Ron Vertheen; and his nieces & nephews: Dustin Vertheen, Mike Davis, Amy Davis, Derick Wayne Vertheen & Nikki Vertheen. Tom is also survived by his cousin Cindie Buchholz as well as numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and other cousins. He was preceded in death by brother John and his parents

A visitation will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187, on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.
