Obituary

Thomas M. Stephan, age 66, a resident of Paw Paw, IL, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018 , at Central DuPage Hospital, surrounded by his family after a strong courageous battle against Cancer.

Tom was born June 5, 1951 in Chicago to Matthew Stephan and Patricia Brice. He grew up in an orphanage in Freeport til he was 10 years old. Graduate of Proviso West high school class of 1969, he went on to achieve multiple degrees from local Colleges. Tom married Janette McGuyer and had 2 daughters. Tom was a Cement Mason for many years from Union Local 502 in Bellwood.  Former resident of Glen Ellyn for 20+ years.  He was a member of the St. Petronille Church in Glen Ellyn where he taught religious education. He was an Election judge for many years also. In his younger years he loved to play tennis at Glen Ayre sports club. He was unique as to say the least. He loved to build and fix things. Even if it wasn't broken. Always could be found working on a project or 3. Loved planting and replanting trees in his yard. Loved to be outside with his dog Gretta. You could always find her by his side.  He enjoyed watching soccer, the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago White Sox. He loved to laugh and make jokes. He loved to socialize.  Tom aka "Uncle Tommy" was a funny guy and loved spending time with family. He would help anyone who needed it.  Whether you were family, a neighbor or a friend he would volunteer to help with what ever you needed.  Tom was an organ transplant recipient 19 years ago by someone else's selfless act of kindness. He vowed to do the same once he passed. Tom was able to donate to Gift of Hope and to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois where he can help others through medical science. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Janette Stephan, of 37 years. Daughters Sarah (Jonathan Hand), and Mackensie Baldwin. Granddaughters Ady Hand, Kailee and Olivia Baldwin. Also by his loyal dog Gretta.

He was preceded in death by his brother Matthew Stephan and nephew Dawson Stephan.

Services will be held this summer.
