IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas J.
Qualiato
October 12, 1949 – October 8, 2024
Thomas J. Qualiato, age 74, a long-time resident of Wheaton, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. He was born October 12, 1949 in Oak Park, IL to Andrew & Eda Qualiato. He was the oldest of three to brother Paul and sister Theresa. They resided in Hillside where he developed a commitment to fitness, excelling in boxing and weight lifting. He also started many lifelong friendships, including with Ann, his future wife, who he met when they were in the seventh grade. From an early age Tom was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He enjoyed learning, specifically the topic of American History and classic cars. A true Italian, he loved rich Italian dishes, big family gatherings, and the music of Frank Sinatra.
Tom and Ann were married for 53 years. They were inseparable. Together they navigated life raising a big family and their marriage was a partnership rooted in love, grace, and dedication. They raised their 6 children in Wheaton, with Christian values. Tom's strong moral compass guided them; he was always available to work through a challenge together with his children. He was their biggest supporter. Tom's career was spent as a high voltage electrician for Commonwealth Edison in Chicago. He was a tremendously hard worker– early morning commutes to the city and back in time to spend time with his family. He enjoyed his time with his colleagues and maintained many lifelong friendships from his working days.
In retirement, Tom and Ann traveled with friends and family. They lived for a time downtown making many new good friends that were dear to his heart before finally settling near family in New Lenox to be more involved with their grandchildren's lives. Many great memories were made in the 2.5 years they lived here, hosting their kids and grandkids for cookouts and holiday celebrations.
Tom will be remembered as a man that dedicated his life to his family, his work, and the many friendships he fostered throughout. He was always willing to lend a hand to those who needed it. He was a problem solver and a prankster, and always fun to be around. From Hillside, to working for Commonwealth Edison, to retirement in Chicago, Tom will be remembered as everyone's friend. Even in his last years he kept his clever sense of humor and his deep commitment and love to his family. Tom truly lived his life his way.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann; his six children: Andrew (Lyndsey), Mary Ellen (Jeremy) Cordell, Erin (Jon) Marshall, Joseph (Rebecca), Emily (Robin) Goodrich and James Qualiato; his grandchildren: Leo & Avery Qualiato; Kelsey, Jeremy, Anthony & Casey Cordell; Hannah, Luke & Benjamin Marshall; Margot & Rory Qualiato; and Lucy & Charlotte Goodrich; his brother Paul (Julie) Qualiato and his sister Theresa (Harold) Goy; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
