Thomas W. Leimbach was born on August 03, 1937 to Ervin H. Leimbach and Mildred T. (Powell) Leimbach in Hammond, Indiana. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Hammond, Indiana. Tom departed this life to eternal rest on September 13, 2026 in Naperville, Illinois.

Tom is survived by Judith, his wife of over 68 years, his devoted daughter Kathleen Leimbach, his devoted son, Robert Leimbach, and his adored grandson, Matthew Leimbach. Also, his brother Richard Leimbach (Linda), nephews, nieces, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Darlyne Lewandowski.

Tom attended St. John Lutheran School, a two room school. When it was time to move into the “big” room (grades 5-8), his teacher moved too so he had the same teacher for all 8 grades. He always said he was the salutatorian of his grade school class of three. He graduated from Hammond Clark High School in 1955. He then attended Valparaiso University and graduated in June of 1959 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

In 1953 Tom met the only girl he ever dated, Judy Hanagan. They were married on June 14, 1958, beginning a loving partnership that would span more than 68 years. Daughter, Kathleen, was born one month after his college graduation and their son Robert was born two years later. Tom and Judy built a life centered on devotion, family, faith, and a shared desire for adventure.

Tom worked his entire career for Commonwealth Edison Company. He enjoyed the many positions he held for the company, but those who knew him well, also knew he truly embraced retirement. In retirement, he found more time for the things and people that he loved the most. He found great happiness in simple pleasures and treasured traditions. He spent many wonderful hours fishing, especially with his son and grandson, times that became some of his favorite memories. He also spent many hours grilling out and was often told “Nobody does it better.” Whether on the water, at the grill, or gathered with family or friends, Tom created moments that will be remembered warmly by all that were present.

Tom was a man of deep faith. He also had great compassion for others. He was always happy to assist others in need. Tom remained active in the churches he attended and was proud to serve on the Mission Board at Peace Lutheran Church.

Tom lived his life devoted to taking care of his family. His steady and constant love for them was felt every single day.

Tom and Judy also shared a love of travel that took them around the world, where they made friends at every destination of their travels. Their favorite vacation spot was Grindelwald, Switzerland, a place that they returned to a dozen or more times. Their travels included China, Israel, river boat cruises throughout Europe, and steam train trips in the western US. They also spent many winters in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Among all of the great moments of Tom’s life, an especially important event for both him and Judy was the birth of their grandson Matthew in 1991, a joy that held a special place in their hearts.

Tom will be remembered as a faithful servant of his Lord, a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and someone who took joy in caring for others. His life was rich with family, friendship, service, and travel. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

The family will be hosting a Memorial Visitation on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church, 21W500 Butterfield Rd., Lombard Illinois 60148.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Tom’s memory to Peace Lutheran Church's Mission Board so that they can help carry on the good works that were important to Tom.
