Obituary

Thomas Earl Fencken Jr. passed away on Thursday, September 9, at home in Wheaton, IL. He was born in Hoopeston, IL on November 15, 1926.

After graduating from high school, Tom toured with the Chuck Hall Orchestra playing the tenor saxophone. It featured Big Band music. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. After graduating from Purdue University with a degree in mechanical engineering, he was recalled into service by the USAF during the Korean Conflict.

Tom began his career at Barber Coleman in Rockford, IL. He later was employed by Andrew Corp. in Orland Park, IL. He retired as Vice President of the Heliax Division.

Tom was an avid golfer and reader. He appreciated the fellowship of St. John Lutheran JOY group, playing bridge, and the company of Labrador retrievers. He enjoyed his many world-wide travels with his wife, Janet.

Tom is survived by his wife Janet (nee Bruggeman) Marks-Fencken, a daughter, Cynthia (Kirk) Maynard, three step-sons, David (Tracy), Glenn and Roger Marks and four grandchildren, Grant and Kelsey Maynard, Andrew and Larisa Marks. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Sr and Marguerite (nee Lowman) Fencken a sister Zoe (nee Fencken) Swift and his first wife Barbara (nee Little) Fencken.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 41 N. Park Blvd., Glen Ellyn, IL. Tom will be laid to rest at the Wheaton Cemetery.
