Obituary

Theodhoraq "Berti" Spaho, born on February 13, 1944, in Korçë, Albania, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, at the age of 82, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was the cherished son of the late Jorgjia and Spiro Spaho and was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother, Andrea Spaho. He is survived by his brother, Vasillaq Spaho, and his sister, Irena Spaho.

Berti pursued his studies in chemical engineering at the University of Tirana, where his discipline and intellect set the foundation for his career. He went on to serve as Director of Engineering in various regions of Albania, earning the respect and friendship of colleagues and community alike for his leadership, integrity, and tireless work ethic. He carried himself with quiet confidence, always guided by principle and responsibility.

In 1998, with courage and hope, Berti immigrated to the Chicago suburbs with his wife and daughter in pursuit of greater opportunity and a brighter future for his family. Starting fresh in a foreign land was not easy, yet he embraced it with resilience and determination. He worked long and demanding hours, driven by a singular purpose: to provide for his family and to help his daughter fulfill her dream of becoming a physician. His sacrifices were made without complaint, and his dedication never wavered.

Above all else, Berti was a man of strength, dignity, and deep faith. Born and raised in Korçë, he carried throughout his life a deep pride in his heritage and the enduring values instilled in him from childhood—hard work, loyalty, and love of family. He was a dedicated friend, maintaining lifelong bonds from his earliest years through every chapter of his life. Distance never weakened his friendships; you could always count on Berti to call during holidays and special occasions, ensuring that no connection was ever lost. His quiet wisdom, dependable nature, and generous heart left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 41 years, Ollge Spaho, his partner in life, with whom he built a life grounded in love and commitment. He was a devoted and immensely proud father to his only daughter, Lidia Spaho Fecami, and a cherished father-in-law to Petrika Fecami. His greatest joy came in his role as grandfather to Thomas and Georgia, whose laughter, hugs and kisses filled his heart with immeasurable happiness.

Family was the center of Berti's world. He found profound meaning in life's simplest and most beautiful moments—gathered around the table, sharing stories, reconnecting with friends, and celebrating milestones together. His love was constant, his support unwavering, and his example one of quiet strength and selfless devotion.

Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his legacy lives on in the family he nurtured, the values he embodied, and the love he gave so freely.

Memory eternal. May the Lord grant him rest with His saints, where there is neither pain nor sorrow nor sighing, but life everlasting.
