Obituary

Suzanne Selwood Lellbach, age 90, a long-time resident of Wheaton, IL, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Suzanne spent her final days surrounded by family and was finally reunited with her love, Edgar "Eck" Lellbach.

Suzanne lived an amazingly full life. Born to Edwin and Pauline Wittschiebe on August 10, 1932, she completed the Wittschiebe family. Raised in Manhasset, NY, Sue attended Manhasset High and went on to graduate from Endicott College.

Sue married the love of her life Eck Lellbach in September of 1955. Together they would raise four wonderful children. Eck and Sue relocated to Wheaton, IL in 1967 where they lived for 25 years. Sue built a very strong community right away with neighbors and her church, St. Matthew United Church of Christ. Sue led the creation of Church Family Camp (a tradition she brought from New York) and she savored those camp weeks together with friends, family and fellowship for over 25 years.

As her children grew up she was incredibly involved in their activities, volunteering countless hours of service to the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Wheaton Warrenville High School Boosters and her church. Her home became a second home for many of the kids' friends well into their college years. The Lellbach house was the place to be on Christmas where Sue hosted a Christmas open house each year, complete with the special Christmas punch.

Throughout her 55 year marriage to Eck, she welcomed 10 grandchildren and earned a fond title of "Nana" to each of them and many of their friends. Eck and Sue retired in Galena, IL where she became an active member of the Questers. And continued to embrace her Wheaton community with frequent visits from the Gigglers.

Following Eck's passing, Sue came home to Wheaton to be closer to her children and grandchildren. In her recent years she enjoyed spending time with her friends at Wyndemere, catching some fresh air during walks to the pond with her caretaker, Jaris and attending many family events and holidays.

Sue is preceded in death by her mother and father, sister Virginia "Ginny" Card, brothers-in-law Richard Card and Warren "Skip" Lellbach, sister-in-law Marita Lellbach and her loving husband Edgar "Eck" Lellbach, who was undoubtedly waiting for her at heaven's gate ready for a long overdue happy hour.

Sue is survived by her children, Douglas (Debra) Lellbach, Lynda Lellbach Dome, Eric (Ruth) Lellbach and Amy (Barry) Sneed, and grandchildren Nick Bennett, Chris (Alissa) Bennett, Jordan Dome, Ryan Dome (Mike Wojciak, fiance), Cameryn Dome, Lauden Dome, Hunter Sneed, Garret Sneed, Reed Lellbach and Claire Lellbach and extended family and friends who will miss her very much.

Her friends and family find comfort in knowing that Sue "lived a wonderful, wonderful life, raising 4 wonderful children with her amazing husband and watching her 10 grandchildren grow-up," a mantra she was well known to repeat often.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 8 at St. Matthew United Church of Christ of Wheaton, Illinois. Visitation 9:30 - 10:30 AM, service to follow. Interment will be private.

Donations in Sue's memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association and St. Matthew United Church of Christ of Wheaton, Illinois.
