Obituary

Susan Beth Callahan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026 at the age of 71 surrounded by her husband and sons.

She was born on October 30, 1954 in Dayton, OH to Robert and Edith Koehler. She grew up in Cincinnati, OH and later made her home in Winfield, IL with a brief stop in Howell/Freehold, NJ, where she devoted her life to her family.

Above all else, she was a dedicated homemaker and the heart of her household. As the mother of four boys, she poured her time, energy, and love into raising her sons—teaching them kindness, resilience, and the importance of family. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and unwavering support, where everyone felt welcome.

She is survived by her loving husband, John; four sons, Jim, Jeff, Dan and Greg; daughters-in-law Molly, Christine and Kelly; her grandchildren, Michael, Penny, Kenley, Bryce, Lucy, Pete and Sam; and her sister, Karol. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Edith; and her brother, David.

Those who knew her will remember her for her kindness, strength, humor, and generosity. She found great joy in traveling and exploring new places, always appreciating the beauty and experiences the world had to offer. You could always find her at one sporting event or another, she was the one in the winter coat if the temperature dipped under 70 degrees. If her family wanted something difficult to find, there was no one better at tracking it down. She loved all her animals, from her dogs to the hummingbirds she religiously fed. She volunteered at the PTA, booster club and Operation Support Our Troops. But nothing brought her more happiness than being a grandmother. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, showering them with love, wisdom, and warmth. Playing games, completing puzzles, picking apples and strawberries; there was no end to the joy she felt spending time with her grandchildren. And if you thought she was done watching sports after her sons retired, you couldn't be more wrong. She always showed up for her grandchildren, when she couldn't be there in person, she would watch on her phone or tablet. Her role as Grandma was one of her greatest treasures, and her love will continue to live on through them.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday April 30, 2026, at 3:45PM at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187, with visitation from 4-8PM.

In honor of her life and memory, the family encourages support for the Scleroderma Foundation (https://www.stopscleroderma.org/), an organization dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by scleroderma through research, education, and support. Contributions made in her name will help advance awareness and bring hope to others facing this disease.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
