Sue Lewis, age 77, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL, went to be with the Lord, peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 8, 2015. She was born May 29, 1938 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Alfred and Mary Hallamore.
Sue was raised and educated in Canada. She enjoyed sports and traveling. After working a year as a Physical and Occupational Therapist in Toronto, she traveled in Europe with a friend and then worked in England for a year as a Physical Therapist. She traveled another summer on a scooter with a friend and met an American man in Denmark at a campground. Charles "Chuck" Lewis had traveled from Singapore on a motorcycle for a year and a half through more than 60 countries of Asia and Europe. They somehow kept in touch with each other and later married in Burlington, Ontario in November 1962. They lived in Peoria, IL, Chuck's home town.
Sue worked as a Physical Therapist in Rehabilitation in Peoria, Madison and Whitewater, WI as Chuck finished his Masters and Doctorate Degrees. They then moved back to Peoria in 1969 and until 1980 Chuck taught at Bradley University. Sue did part time Physical Therapy at a Nursing Home and at Central Illinois College. By 1976 Chuck had earned a year's Sabbatical leave allowing the family to spend 10 months in Japan. Chuck counseled and taught many Missionaries from several different Mission organizations. He continued traveling to Asia during part of the following summers providing teaching and care for many missionaries and organizations.
In 1980 Chuck had an offer from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL to become Director of the Counseling Center. He quickly seized that opportunity and our family became very involved in the lives of TCKs (students who had grown up overseas). They continued with some overseas travel and involvement with missionaries and their organizations in Wheaton.
In 1995 Chuck was offered early retirement and Sue soon retired from work. They affiliated with Barnabas International, a mission group that provides encouragement, education and edification to missionaries around the world. They traveled to more than 20 different countries, some many times, and continued to provide counseling when at home.
Sue and Chuck were members of Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria and then Wheaton Evangelical Free Church. They taught single Adult Bible Fellowships for several years. They lived at Windsor Park Manor Estates in Carol Stream since 2006. Serving the Lord at home and abroad was the focus of their lives.
Sue enjoyed making scrapbooks, crafts, traveling, reading, art projects and entertaining people in their home.
Sue and Chuck have two children, Linda and Mark Sweeting of Wheaton and Daniel and Rebecca Lewis of Campbell River, BC, Canada. Six grandchildren, Ashley, Emilianna, and Noah Sweeting and Galena, Adielle, and River Lewis are left behind. Sue has one sister, Marian Williamson, in Ontario, Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Diane Matthews.
Sue was a caring, loving, creative woman.
