IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stephen William
Brodt
November 1, 1948 – February 16, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce that Stephen William Brodt, at age 76, a resident of Sugar Grove passed away on February 16th, 2025. He was born November 1st, 1948 in Allentown, PA to Robert and Helen Brodt.
Steve spent most of his childhood living on the south side of Chicago. After graduating high school, he was drafted to join the Vietnam War but was amusingly rejected due to his flat feet. This turn of events led him to enroll at Southern Illinois University (SIU), where he earned a bachelor's degree in Finance.
Following college, Steve married and raised a family while he worked for a landscaping company in the Chicago suburbs. In 1976, he founded his own landscaping company," Western Dupage Landscaping," which has thrived for 49 years and continues to flourish. Steve's career had many milestones, by 2004 WDL was the 54th largest green company in the United States with nearly 200 employees. His journey led him down many challenges, victories, and times that required an unmatched drive and perseverance that only he could deliver.
Steve's professional success was only matched by his incredible role as an outstanding father, spouse, and friend to those who knew him. His immense generosity touched the lives of many. Steve's life was filled with humor and spontaneity. There was never a dull moment when he was around. His journey through life, marked by a wonderful combination of tenacity and charm, was one that many only dream of achieving. His passions included golf, sailing, reading, and carpentry projects.
Steve is survived by his fiancée, Virginia Ibes; his children, Tyler Brodt, Ross Brodt (Kylie), and Lisa McLaughlin (Michael); his five grandchildren, Remy and Ivan Brodt, and Gavin, Gage, and Harper McLaughlin; his former wife and mother of his children, Jane Brodt, as well as his sisters Roberta (Jerry) Dauderman, and Rebecca (Mel) Weinberg. Steve was a beloved father, fiance, and friend to many. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and adventure. He will be truly missed by not only his children and loved ones, but all who had the privilege of knowing him. His carefree, positive attitude and his generous spirit lifted everyone who came across his path. He was a light in a sometimes too dark world. We may not remember everything he said but we sure do remember how he made us feel.
Visitation will be held at the Red Oak Room at Cantigny Golf, 27w270 Mack Rd., Wheaton, IL 60189, on May the 3rd, 2025 from 10am-12pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association .
