Stanley C. Cole, age 93, a resident of Wheaton for four years and formerly of Normal, Illinois, died on December 25, 2010. Stan was born in 1917 in Florence, Arizona.

He attended Lawrence University and later received a Masters Degree from I.S.U. in Normal. He enlisted in the Navy at the beginning of W.W.II, achieving the rank of Lt. Commander. He served in the Pacific and in Europe. He worked as an underwriter for State Farm Insurance for 30 years. During that time he earned the CPCU designation. While living in Normal, Stan was active in the Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis, Normal Alumni Club, Longfellow Club, and served on the board of Friends of Milner Library (ISU). He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Normal where he sang in the choir. He was a life-long learner, avid stamp collector, photographer, and enthusiastic traveler.

Stan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Married for 70 years, Stan leaves behind a grieving family. His wife, Dorothy Martin Cole of Wheaton, IL. His three daughters: Laura (Jim) Carr, of Wheaton, Karen (Jim) Tivnan, of Ipswich, MA, and Nancy (Mark) Wessling, of Oconomowoc, WI. Eight grandchildren: Erin (Matt) Young, of Wheaton, Bryan Carr, of Ft. Collins, CO, Kelly (John) Quinn, of Middleton, NH, Daniel Tivnan, of Newburyport, MA, Susan Tivnan, of North Reading, MA, and Steve (Erin) Wessling, Alice Wessling, and Tom Wessling, all of Minneapolis, MN. Four great-great grandchildren: Abigail and Ryan Young, and Keegan and Dillon Quinn.

He will be laid to rest in Normal, Illinois.

A memorial service will be held at The First Presbyterian Church in Wheaton, Ill.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois.
