Stanley M. Block, age 82, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, and formerly of Rockford, IL, Green Lake, WI, Winnetka, IL, and Olympia Fields, IL, died Friday, October 22, at Windsor's Johnson Healthcare Center. He was born February 4, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN.
Dr. Block received his Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a professor of Industrial Engineering at the University of Minnesota, and then the University of Chicago. From 1962 until 1971 he was the department chairman of Industrial Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He was a professional lecturer and consultant to various companies. In his later years he was a Labor Arbitrator throughout the United States.
Dr. Block was very involved in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, both on the campus and overseas. He also enjoyed travelling throughout the world visiting and supporting missionaries. He was always actively involved in whatever church he attended. He especially loved to sing in the choir.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Isabelle; his four daughters, Pat (Alan) Unander of Wheaton, Carol (Allan) Dalton of Westlake Village, CA, Beverly (Reiner) Rehbein of Kenora, Ontario, CAN, and Priscilla (John) Eckhardt of Mobile, AL; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his brother, Kenneth (Margo) of Wilmette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Flora Block.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 24, from 1:30 P.M. until the time of a service at 3:30 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Wheaton, 1310 N. Main St. Interment is private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
