Sophie A. Ratz, age 88, a resident of Westbridge Assisted Living Center in Wheaton, died on Monday, May 29th. She was born in Chicago on November 4, 1917 to Albert and Anna Myzia.
In 1940 she married Joseph F. Ratz in Chicago. Together they lived on the northwest side of Chicago. After Joseph's death in 1985 she moved to Killen, Alabama to live with her daughter, Joanne. In 2002 she moved back to Illinois. She was an active resident at Westbridge where she enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, and making many crafts. In doing so, she made many friends and was an inspiration to all. She will surely be missed.
Sophie is survived by four children, Tom (Elaine) Ratz of Granbury, Texas, Joanne (Bill) Bailey of Killen, Alabama, Barbara (John) Maggiore of Lake Zurich, and Kathy (Jim) Brown of Wheaton, thirteen grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother and two sisters.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 1, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 2 at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, West and Wesley St. in Wheaton. Interment will be held at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles.
