Shirley June Mitchell, age 92, a resident of Park Place in Elmhurst, formerly of Hinsdale, passed away September 23, 2023.

While at Illinois Wesleyan University she met Gilbert Mitchell. He proposed in Miller Park in Bloomington and she waited for him while he served in the Army During the Korean War.  The two were married in 1953. Gil and Shirley were longtime residents of Hinsdale and were faithful members of the Hinsdale Methodist Church. She took great pride in her home and loved flowers and working in the yard.

She is survived by her children, George Mitchell and Jane (Richard) Turner; and her grandchildren Elizabeth and Laurel Turner.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gil on June 1, 2020, and her older sister, Marge Millar.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, September 29 from 1:30 to 2:30 at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. Burial will be private at Wheaton Cemetery.
