Shirley M. Landstrom, age 81, a resident of Wheaton since 1952, died Thursday, August 17, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Glen Ellyn. She was born November 12, 1924 to Dr.John and Margaret Canavan in Chicago, IL, where she was raised.

After high school, Shirley attended the Northwestern Business College in Chicago and worked as a secretary for the Catholic School system in the Archdiocese of Chicago. During that time she met her husband, Bert who was attending school at Northwestern University. They were married May 3, 1947 at St. Sabina in Chicago. They started a family a year later. She was a member of St. Michael Church in Wheaton for over 50 years. She enjoyed volunteering and had an interest in the arts. She belonged to the Chicago Art Institute, and the DuPage Art League.

She is survived by her six children, John (Vicki) of Glen Ellyn, JoAnn (John) Pelikan of Bensenville, Barry of Wheaton, Beth (Bob) Trojan of Geneva, Brian (Gay) of Muskegon, MI, Eric (Allison) of Naperville; nine grandchildren, Matt and Drew, Rachel and Nate, Noah, Sarah and Hannah, and Ian and Ella; her brother, Robert (Mary) Canavan; and her sister, Florence Wirsen.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Bertil; her son, Richard; and two brothers, John, and Arthur.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 20, from 3-8 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, where prayers will be said on Monday, at 11:00 A.M. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 A.M. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 310 S. Wheaton Ave. in Wheaton. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Wheaton.
