IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley A.
Fox
July 21, 1930 – March 18, 2024
Shirley A. Fox, 93, joyfully met Jesus on March 18, 2024, in Harrodsburg, KY. She was born on July 21, 1930, in Rock River, IL.
Born to Wendell and Nora (Tielkemeier) Philips, she was the youngest of three children. She grew up in Rockford, IL; she attended Bob Jones Academy in South Carolina and Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.
She was united in marriage to Robert E. Orner in June of 1951. Robert passed away in September of 1953, leaving her with two small sons.
In 1960, she married Robert L. Fox, a widower with four young children. They had three additional children, making their new family a bona fide yours, mine, and ours!
They resided in Naperville, IL, until 1994 when they retired to Mt. Ida, AR. She lived there until 2015 when she moved to her youngest daughter's home in Texas. She later lived in Iowa and finally relocated to Danville, KY, near her youngest son's home, and remained there until her passing.
Shirley was a very active member of the Priquilla Class at Claim Street Baptist Church in Aurora, IL. She enjoyed working in children's ministries and Daily Vacation Bible School. She always wore a smile and brought an eager willingness to help out at church.
Even as her health declined and her memory faded, she still greeted everyone she met with her warm smile as she asked them, "Do you know Jesus?" Her love for Jesus was transparent throughout her life, and she shared it with everyone.
She is survived by her nine children: Robert D. (Cindy) Fox, Daniel (Debbie) Orner, Deanna (Robert) Runge, Robert A. (Kendra) Fox, Randy (Krista) Fox, Connie (Jack) Schulz, Russ (Marnie) Fox, Rick (Julie) Fox, and Dawn (Virgil) Das. She is also survived by her 19 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Olive Hibbard; her brother, Rev. Wesley Philips; her first husband, Robert E. Orner; and her second husband, Robert L. Fox.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 14, from 1:00pm until the time of the service at 2:30 pm at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Street, Wheaton, IL. Interment will follow the service at the Wheaton Cemetery, Wheaton, IL.
