Shirley Mae Elifson's Obituary
Shirley Mae Elifson, age 91, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, IL, died Friday, August 3, 2012, at Windsor's Johnson Healthcare Center. She was born December 27, 1920, in Milwaukee, WI, to Henry and Helen Brandt.
For nearly 42 years Mrs. Elifson had been a pastor's wife and homemaker. She had been a member of Norwood Bible Church in Chicago where she served with her husband, Rev. Donald Elifson, until his death in 1981. She also served as a Sunday School teacher at Norwood for many years. Her strong belief in the love of the Lord Jesus for her and her love for Him greatly influenced her life. One of her favorite songs was "No One Ever Cared for Me Like Jesus." She deeply loved her family: children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were a great source of joy, and she loved to have her family around her. She moved to Windsor Park Retirement Community in 1999. Throughout her life she was a lover of books and an avid reader with a special love of the Word of God. In later years she was a member of the Windsor Park Manor Book Club. She will be remembered as a quilter, excellent cook and a rich source of family history.
She is survived by her daughter, Pauline Elifson; and her sons, Calvin (Karen) Elifson, John (Susan) Elifson and Daniel (Nora) Elifson; grandchildren, Deborah (Todd) Earnst, Tami (Joel) Vander Weele, Anne (Tim) Saalfrank, John Eric (Amy) Elifson, Jonathan (Kelly) Elifson, Sarah Elifson, Katie Elifson, Luke Elifson and Nate Elifson; great-grandchildren, Ben and Jeremy Earnst, Jacob, Sam and Seth Vander Weele, Matthew and Kate Saalfrank, and Matthew, Maya and Olivia Elifson; and her brother, James (Joy) Brandt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Donald C. Elifson.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL, followed by interment at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace, IL. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Windsor Park Manor, 124 Windsor Park Dr. in Carol Stream, IL, with the Reverends Daniel Elifson, John Elifson and Calvin Elifson officiating.
Memorials may be directed to Northern Grace Youth Camp, 14390 County Rd Vv, Gillett, WI 54124.
