Obituary

Shirley G. Crandall Thorne, age 77, a resident of Wheaton for many years, died at home on Thursday, October 12.

She was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on February 14, 1929 as the only child of Joseph and Jean Crandall. At age 15 she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord. After high school she went on to graduate from New Brunswick Bible Institute. Although she felt called to the mission field, she could not go to because of an asthmatic condition. She took a position as secretary at International Christian Fellowship under the direction of Rev. Peter and Kay Paget. They became faithful workers and devoted friends. She married John Thorne on June 27, 1981 in Canada. John went home to be with the Lord on October 14, 1985. Although Shirley suffered all her life with asthma, she was a gracious, fun loving and sincere lady. She took her work seriously and strove always to be honest and to do and look her very best. She lived with integrity and above reproach for the sake of the gospel. She is at peace and rest with her Lord who she adored.

She is survived by her children, Dan Thorne of West Chicago, Peter (Donna) Thorne of Texas, Jim (Maryjane) Thorne of Elizabeth, IL, Priscilla Stoyanof of California, Rose (Ted) White of Big Rock, IL, and Sally (Dwight) Jacobsen of Massachusetts, 24 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Shirley will be also sadly missed by many close friends and relatives from the Moncton area especially her Aunt Doris (the late Nelson) Crandall, and her cousins, John (Marlene) Crandall, Karen (the late Glenn) Crandall-Stroud, Victoria and Adam Stroud.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a grandson.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 15, from 2 to 5 P.M. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. Interment will be held on Monday at 10 a.m at Wheaton Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Bethany Chapel, College St. and President St. in Wheaton.
