IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sheryl
Amato
October 6, 1954 – January 22, 2025
Sheryl "Sherrie" Amato, age 70, a resident of Bloomingdale, IL, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital. She was born October 6, 1954, in Elmhurst, IL to James & Dorothy Nelson and raised in Itasca, Illinois.
As a child of five, she was led to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ by her mother, Dorothy during a bedtime Bible Devotional. She graduated from Lake Park High School and her favorite extra-curricular activity was always music, singing in the High School Choir and with a Christian High School musical organization. She attended Trinity College in Deerfield, Illinois and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. While there, she continued with her love for singing, as a member of the Concert Choir that traveled to foreign countries to sing and stay with natives of those countries. In her Senior Year, she was introduced to her husband, Brent, by her Aunt and Uncle, Del and Herb Criley, who knew Brent through the Christian Legal Society. Not the normal "match makers", Del and Herb prayed six months before introducing the two of them, so God's hand was in the match! She then taught fourth grade for three years at an Elementary School, in Itasca.
She and Brent were always actively involved at Medinah Baptist Church, she serving specifically in Women's Ministry activities, such as "Ladies Teas", which included many of women of the Church and their guests. She was a true friend to any woman she met! More recently, she and Brent attended Village Church East, a "satellite" of Village Church of Bartlett, Illinois where she continued to be immersed in Women's Ministries.
She was a "super grandmother", always very active in their lives: always shopping for them rather than herself, whether it be clothes or snacks; whether it be school activities or any of a number of sports. She was a "Super Fan", not wanting to miss any game, no matter how far a drive!
Following in her Italian mother's culinary footsteps, she was known for her signature meal, Lasagna, with that special sauce that percolated for hours and filled every corner of the house when she was hosting. No "recipe", just what she inherited from her mother.
But more than anything else, and again following in her mother's footsteps, she was consumed with the spiritual nurture of her children and her grandchildren, passing on a solid Biblical legacy to them.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Brent; her two children, Jason (Kristy) Amato & Kristin (Adam) Asher; her grandchildren Blaze, Skylar, Faith & Caleb Amato and David & Lincoln Asher; and her sister-in-law Dawn Munao.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jim, mother, Dorothy and her brother Daniel Nelson.
