Sheldon Gilbert, age 79, a resident of Wheaton since 1978, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2017. He was born April 24, 1937 in Janesville, Wisconsin to Sheldon and Patricia Gilbert.

On May 3, 1958 he married Kathleen Anne "Neen" Kiely. They lived in Chicago and Oak Park where they raised three children. He worked as a credit manager for Prince Castle Inc. in Carol Stream for over 25 years.

Shell and Neen enjoyed travel and visited 49 of the 50 states. Spending time with his grandchildren was something he greatly enjoyed and looked forward to every day. He enjoyed following the major league Chicago Sports Teams. He also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and bowling.

Sheldon is survived by three children, Kathy (Bruce) Patterson of Colfax, IL, Kevin (Cindy) Gilbert of Geneva, IL and Tim (Laurie) Gilbert of Sycamore, IL, nine grandchildren, Roger (Jo), Eddie, Adam, Palmer, Blaine, Julie, Kiely, Mary Kate and Rachel and one great-granddaughter, Sophia. He is also survived by cousins, Betty Fulstick and Mary Pat (Jerry) Egner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Anne "Neen" Gilbert, his parents, and stepfather George Mierke.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 29, at 11:00 a.m.. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.
