Obituary

Sarah Henderson, age 75, a resident of Glendale Heights for 33 years, died Tuesday, August 30 at home. She was born on September 28, 1929 to Giovani and Lina Alimentato, the youngest of seven children.

Sarah grew up on Taylor Street in the Italian neighborhood of Chicago. She graduated from Business School and the worked as an accountant in Chicago. While her children were school age, she created and ran the Americana Grade School Lunchroom Program Incorporated. She retired from the Du Page Convalescent Center, where she worked as a supervisor for 17 years. She was a member of the VFW Auxilliary and Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Sarah was a caring and devoted wife, mother, Nana, sister and aunt who had a deep love and affection for her entire family. She is survived by three children, Mark R. (Stacy) Henderson of Coal City, James J. (Michelle) Henderson of Wheaton, and Lisa L. (Mark) Banach of Elk Grove Village, nine grandchildren, Danielle, Joshua, and Elizabeth, James Jr., Anthony, and Jessica, Amanda, Lillian and Olivia, and four sisters, Antoinette Di Nardo, Mary C. Martin, Lena Miller, and Margaret Lombardo.

Earlier this year, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Roy. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Lucy "Jean" DiCicco, and Roy Alimentato.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 1, from 3 until 9 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 802 E. Geneva Rd., Wheaton with Rev. David Hanson officiating.

Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
