Sarah A. Giesecke, age 94, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. She was born January 18, 1919 in Pekin, IL.
Sarah spent her early winters in St. Petersburg, FL and attended her first school days at the Aiken Open Air School. She attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL for two years. College was interrupted with meeting and marrying Fred Giesecke in Pekin on October 15, 1938. During World War II, they spent three years stationed in New Orleans, where Sarah was active in the Navy Wives Club and other organizations. Following the war, they returned to Pekin where their daughter Margaret was born. They moved to Riverside in 1950 and remained there for the next 45 years. Their son, John, arrived in 1952. Sarah and Fred, were active in church and social organizations throughout their lives. They loved Riverside and made connections that would last their lifetime. Sarah was a very intelligent and creative woman, who imparted these gifts to her children. She was an avid reader and loved to cook.
The Gieseckes moved to Wheaton in 1995 and ultimately to Wyndemere in 1998. Sarah lived independently until her death. She is survived by her daughter Margaret of Wheaton and son John (Shelley) of Batavia and grandchildren Marget (Peter) Graham of Chicago and Sean Jurkowski of Batavia. There are three great-grand children, Gabby, Peter and Liam Graham. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred and sister Margaret Schustek. Sarah was the wonderful Aunt Da to her niece and namesake Sarah Nordquist, residing in Studio City, CA. She will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. to be held at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, IL.
