Sara Louise Shafer Tovar, was born in Highland Park, Illinois on January 22, 1931, and died peacefully on September 24, 2015, with her family at her side.
Graduating from Lake Forest High School class of '49, she continued her studies in English Literature at the University of Arizona. She married and raised her four children in Chicago and Barrington, Illinois and moved to Arizona after retiring from Kemper Insurance Company in Long Grove. Returning to the Chicago area to be with her family she has lived in Wheeling for the past 11 years.
Many words describe Sara but those who knew her best always admired her great sense of humor, her kind-heartedness and forgiveness, her positive overcoming spirit, and her selfless generosity.
There is now a huge hole in our family and she will be
greatly missed by:
Her daughter, Lisa Louise Tovar Kuntz (Dale) of Prospect Heights, and her children, Tom (Juany) Honeycutt, Kristin Louise (Luke) Carrillo, and David Kuntz;
Her daughter, Susan Tovar (Jeff) McMenamin of South Elgin, and her children, Sara Fabrycy (Brett) Mahon, Heidi Fabrycy (John) Nagy, and Emily Taylor;
Her son, Frederic A. Tovar IV, of Cave Creek, Arizona;
Her daughter, Debra Tovar (William) Loxton, and her daughter, Victoria Louise, of Port Huron, Michigan.
As a young grandmother, Sara chose to be called G. As her family grew, she became G-G, and then triple G-G-G. She was loved and adored by her great-grandchildren: Charli Louise and Otto Mahon, Liam, Levi, Cassandra, Alexandra, and Logan Nagy, Mia Louisa Honeycutt and Winnie Carrillo. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who dearly loved their Aunt Sara.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Louise Shafer, her sister, Susan Strecker, her brother, Jonathan Shafer, and her former husband, Frederic A. Tovar III.
The family wishes to thank her dear friends and extended family for their love and friendship and the staff at Manor Care in Arlington Heights for providing wonderful care for Sara.
