Sara Stephens Roberts, age 89, a resident of Glen Ellyn, passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, IL on Saturday, November 28, 2009, from complications after breaking a hip in late September. Mrs. Roberts was born in Hermitage, AR on April 22, 1920. Her family moved to Blevins, AR and later to Little Rock, AR. She lived most of her adult life in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, IL, which included: Des Plaines, Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove.
An accomplished artist and avid antique hunter, Sara had an aesthetic sense that touched everything she did. Additionally, her quick wit and intelligent sense of humor was savored by all who knew her. Whether she was fishing with family, taking a painting lesson, or attending Barbershop singing events with her husband and the Arlingtones, Sara brought warmth and fun to every occasion.
She is survived by her large and loving family, including her three sons: Steve (Sandi) Mueller of Elmhurst, IL, Brad (Lanora) Mueller of Batavia, IL, and Greg (Mary) Mueller, of Wheaton, IL. She is also survived by three stepchildren: Ronda (Preston) Quenette of Mansfield, TX, Lynn (Robert) Hover of Boca Raton, FL, and Tom Roberts (Antoinette Lynn) of New York, NY.
Additionally she is survived by her five treasured grandchildren: Robbie, Steve, Sara, Joshua and Daniel Mueller. Three step-grandchildren: Laura and Matthew Quenette and Malia Menendez. She also leaves behind her nieces, Marci Ferguson of Houston, TX and Debbie Gowtham of Glastonbury, CT.
She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Martella Stephens; her husband, John Roberts; her first husband, Richard Mueller; and her beloved identical twin sister, Martha Allen.
The family is grateful for all who knew and cared for her, especially the incredibly dedicated staff of The Meadows in Glen Ellyn, where she lived for the past five years. Sara's unique, sprightly and caring spirit will be remembered always and missed by all.
