Salvador Aberilla's Obituary

Salvador Palma Aberilla left this world swiftly and suddenly, to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 10, 2021 at 10:31pm.

He is survived by his sons Seferini, Sergei, and Shadrick, and also leaves behind siblings Gaspar Aberilla and Rosemarie (nee Aberilla) Mogot. Being a very proud Lolo and "Grampy," he was especially fond of his grandchildren: Eliza Jane, Sophia Grace, Sabrina Claire, and Sawyer Josef Salvador. Last but not least, he leaves behind "Cha-Cha," the family shih tzu.

Salvador, also known as "Badong" among the family circle, was born February 1, 1943, at 10:50pm to Gaspar Aberilla and Rosita Palma in Zamboanga and was baptized on February 6, 1943. He went on to attend Zamboanga General Hospital School for Nursing, where he met the love of his life, Sonia. Both of them had the dream of one day coming to the United States to become citizens and to practice nursing as their medical profession. They married on May 4, 1968, and Salvador finally realized his American dream, becoming naturalized by the United States District Court in Chicago, IL on April 20, 1976.

The man extensively followed world military history, with a special interest in World War II. Among his favorite generals of that era were General George Patton, for his no nonsense approach and second-to-none offense against Germany during the European campaign. He also admired General Douglas Macarthur for his campaign to free the Philippines from Japanese tyranny during the Pacific campaign.

Living in Chicago, he introduced his children to the snowy winter by building snow forts, playing with light up toy machine guns, and having snowball fights that lasted for hours. Inside the house, he would also spend time jumping on the living room furniture with his growing sons, having pretend sword fights...when Mom wasn't home, of course.

During the summer, he introduced his love of basketball by installing a basketball hoop in the backyard. He played pickup games with his sons, their friends, and visiting relatives that shared a love for the sport.

He loved Chicago sports, and cheered on the 1985 Chicago Bears to Superbowl XX, under coach Mike Ditka. He passionately cheered on the Chicago Cubs, hoping that Ryne Sandburg would eventually lead the team to a World Series in the 80's, which never happened. However, to his, and all of Chicago's pleasant surprise, the Cubs won the World Series in 2016. Of course, with his love of basketball, he cheered on Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls to their six world championship titles.

He also loved karaoke, especially singing songs by Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. One time, Salvador took to the microphone, entertaining strangers on a tour bus during his visit to Israel and Jordan with his wife and friends.

Salvador loved and protected his family and was especially fond of his grandchildren; he enjoyed spending time with them whenever he could.  He finally became a dog lover when Cha-Cha came into his life. In turn he was truly loved by many, and will be sorely missed.

May God bless you and keep you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
