Sally Elsie
Lorraine Morgan
December 23, 1925 – July 13, 2017
Sally Elsie Lorraine Morgan, beloved wife of the late Edward F. Morgan Jr., cherished mother of seven children and the only child of the late Fred and Anna Salay, died and went to be with Christ on July 13, 2017 at the age of 91. She passed comfortably in the presence of family.
Originally named Elsie Salay, her closest friends nicknamed her 'Sally,' and later in life she legally changed her name to 'Sally'. She studied piano as a girl and practiced in her Father's ice cream parlor in Cicero behind a large advertising screen so as not to disturb the customers. In time, she became quite proficient and loved playing Clair de Lune for family, friends and her own children.
Sally and her best friend Irene were SOKOL girls together. They and many others used calisthenics to enhance the strength of spirit, mind and body. This strength remained with her for many years.
Sally came of age in Cicero, IL, and graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School in 1943 and then studied at Morton Junior College. Soon after the end of World War II, she wed Edward Morgan on November 25, 1950 in Cicero. Early in the 1950s, they gave their lives to Christ after attending a Billy Graham Crusade for Christ and faithfully followed him the rest of their lives.
In the mid-1950s, the couple relocated their family from Lyons, IL, to Turf Lane in north Wheaton. About 10 years later they bought farm land on the south side of Wheaton and built a home for their family of six children at that time. Their home was inspired by a southern Vermont ski lodge, Kandahar.
Sally and Ed raised their family of seven children as well as hosting countless gatherings of youth groups, Bible studies, or dinners for Christians in the business community. Sally welcomed to their home, missionaries, Wheaton College and foreign exchange students and many other individuals and groups.
Through this time Sally was also engaged as a volunteer and a leader with the social service outreach of College Church in Wheaton, Wheaton Christian Grammar School, Wheaton Academy and other aid and mission groups.
In November 2000 Sally and Ed celebrated their 50
th
wedding anniversary on the Big Island of Hawaii with their children, grandchildren and closest friends.
Sally Morgan is survived by her seven children, Michael(Leslie) of Wheaton, IL; Elizabeth (Perry Jones) of Johns Creek, GA; Timothy(Jane Senja) of Wheaton, IL; Marianne (Chris Petersen) of Lonetree, CO; Daniel (Evonne) of Plantation, FL; Jonathan of Boone, NC; Eric (Afarin) of Roseville, MN; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one cousin from Prague, Czech Republic and five nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Sally will be held on Saturday, September 9, at 2 PM in the
College Church
sanctuary located at 332 E Seminary Ave, Wheaton, IL. A reception will follow serving light refreshments and music that Sally loved to sing and play.
