Obituary
Ruth Smith, age 89, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, and formerly of Lombard and Port Charlotte, FL, died Sunday, March 26 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. She was born August 12, 1916 in Marion, IN.
Ruth was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and birdwatching. She loved her family and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a former president of the Lombard Women's Society, a member of PEO, and was actively involved in a number of other civic groups.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Barry) Sweeny of Wheaton; three grandchildren, Matthew (Renea) Sweeny, Beckie Sweeny, and Christopher May; two great-grandchildren, Noah Larson and Keller Sweeny; and her son-in-law, Jim May.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Jay A. Smith; and her daughter, Janet Ruth Smith.
Services were held at Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream. Interment is private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Gary Memorial United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187.
