Ruth P.
Muzzy
March 4, 1923 – October 26, 2020
Ruth Pfund Muzzy, age 97, of Covenant Living at Windsor Park, Carol Stream, IL went to be with the Lord on October 26, 2020. "If anything happens, I have the Lord in my heart and I know where I'm going." were her final words.
Ruth was born to Liebhart and Helen Turner Pfund at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, IL on March 4, 1923. She graduated from York High School in Elmhurst, IL and attended Wheaton College. She married her sweetheart, Robert Edson Muzzy, on April 10, 1943 to whom she soon said goodbye when he was drafted into the US Army where he served for two years.
Bob and Ruth lived most of their years in the Wheaton area. She was a faithful member of College Church, Wheaton, IL and willingly stepped into various positions of service there including Pioneer Girls and the deaconess board. The door was always open at the Muzzy's for the church youth groups and missionaries. She spent many years enjoying her role as the church wedding coordinator which led her to author "The Christian Wedding Planner" with R. Kent Hughes. The heart of Ruth's life was her faith. She claimed the simple truth that she was a sinner, that Jesus died for her sins, rose again and by believing in Him she would have eternal life.
Ruth's family brought her so much joy. She was not one to miss a concert or special event when it came to the family, even into her 90's. The kids and grandkids fondly remember the large gatherings at the Muzzy home and at their summer house in Three Lakes, WI. There were always delicious smells coming from the kitchen, beautiful tables set, and welcoming surroundings as Grandma Ruth effortlessly modeled a truly generous spirit, servant's heart and the gift of hospitality. She will be remembered for the sparkle in her eyes and her ongoing sense of humor.
The gift of a long and happy marriage was treasured and Bob and Ruth made each day together count. They enjoyed traveling overseas several times visiting missionaries and exploring Europe, Scandinavia, and Asia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother LeRoy, son-in-law Alec Miner, son-in-law Ronald Teiwes and daughter-in-law Cheryl Watson. She is survived by her sister Phyllis (Paul) Hiley of Naples, FL, daughter Susan Teiwes of Wheaton, IL, son Richard (Christine) Muzzy of Victor, ID, son Ken (Carol) Muzzy of West Chicago, IL, daughter Ann (Kevin) Kelley of Winfield, IL,12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
A family celebration of life is planned for the spring of 2021.
