Obituary

Ruth Jorgensen, age 93, of Wheaton, died Sunday, November 12, at Golden Years Retirement Home in Lyons, Illinois. She was born on September 6, 1913 in Aurora, to Rufus and Sarah Park.

She grew up in Wheaton, attended the Wheaton schools and graduated from Wheaton College in 1935. She earned an additional degree from Wheaton College in 1936. Ruth worked as a music teacher in high schools in Stillman Valley, IL and Leo, IN. In 1942 she married Rev. Leland Jorgensen. Together they served churches in Dalhousie, N.B., Bluevale, Ont., Houston, MS, Aliceville, AL, Yazoo City, MS, and Asheville, NC. In 1978 they returned to her family home in Wheaton. For many years she spent summers at Frankfort, MI at the Congregational Summer Assembly, where she helped establish annual art fairs and a local art center.

She was a member of College Church in Wheaton and was active with the Du Page Art League.

Ruth is survived by one son, David Park Jorgensen; and many nieces and nephews including, Faith (Gerald) Haddock of Wheaton, Austin (Judy) Winsor of Gays Mills, WI, Bob Park and Carol (Elmer) Bauman of Greenville, SC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Leland Christian Jorgensen.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton, where a funeral will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
