A memorial service for Ruth M. Johnson will be held on Friday, April 29 at 11:00 A.M. at Wheaton Bible Church, 27W500 North Ave. in West Chicago.
Ruth is now in eternal glory with her Lord Jesus after leaving this life on Tuesday, April 26th, 2011, at 88 years of age. She was born March 6, 1923 at Ponte Nove, Lenocoes, Bahia, Brazil. She was the first born of three daughters to Frederick Edwin Johnson and Lillian Margaret Marie (Miller) Johnson, who spent many years in Brazil as missionaries from the Presbyterian Church. She lived for a season in her youth in Rockford, IL with extended family; then rejoined her family to live in Wheaton where she remained for the rest of her life.
Ruth graduated from Wheaton College in 1946 as a zoology major and then taught for 2 years in the sciences at the college. She worked for different ministries in Wheaton, including the Sudan Interior Mission, Christian Life Mission, and Chapel of the Air where she spent most of her working years. She faithfully attended Wheaton Bible Church for over 60 years and served as a Sunday School teacher.
She is survived by a brother-in-law Robert White; one nephew, Mark White; two nieces, Manya Gyuro and Martha Laks, their spouses and children. Her nephew and nieces considered her more than an aunt as she lived with them during their upbringing. In her interest and study of nature, she was especially intrigued by how it reveals God's character. She loved Jesus, expressing with strong conviction that God loves her, is protecting her, caring for her, and is able to heal her. The determination with which she met challenging health issues surprised a number of medical professionals. God poured out His grace and provision into her life time after time. We thank God for the blessing of having her in our lives and look forward to being with her in eternity.
Interment will be held privately at Wheaton Cemetery. Additional information and guest book is available at www.hultgrenfh.com or call Hultgren Funeral Home at 630-668-0027.
